French language school trips

Our French language school trips are different because they are led entirely in French by animateurs, our native-speaking instructors, to create a truly immersive language experience which is shown to improve students' learning and confidence. We are the leaders in French language immersion programmes and specialise in trips for school groups at our own residential centres in Normandy and the Opal coast, as well as animateur-led tours of Paris.

Give your Students an Immersive Experience with a French Language School Trip

Each one of our French language immersion school trips is different, but each one is designed to maximise the opportunities for students to practise their language with a trained French-native animateur.

School groups on our French language programmes in Paris and at our residential centres in Northern France are led by our own French-native animateurs who have considerable experience working with school groups.

French language school trips to our residential centres

Our flagship French immersion and adventure programme based at Château de la Baudonnière uses French as the sole means of communication throughout the week which means that students have more exposure to speaking and listening to French than is possible in a whole term of formal French lessons back at school.

Our residential French language trips to La Grand' Ferme in Lower Normandy, Chateau de Chantereine in Upper Normandy, or Moulin aux Draps on the Opal Coast use guided cultural visits to give children a chance to use their French in a real setting under the supervision of our own trained animateurs who will accompany the group throughout.

The benefits of a French language immersion school trip

Taking an immersive French language school trip has many notable benefits:

  • Students have a fun and enjoyable week while making substantial and sustainable improvements in their listening, pronunciation and conversation of the French language
  • Students become more accustomed and comfortable speaking in French and grow in confidence as language students
  • By experiencing French in a real context, students come away understanding the practical benefits of learning another language which translates to more motivated learning back in the classroom
  • At the end of the week, students find that they enjoy speaking the language and are more likely to take French at GCSE or A level

How does French language immersion work?

Instead of learning a new language by formal instruction, your students will acquire from native speakers in an authentic and immersive environment. Wherever possible, our animateurs and centre staff will not speak English to your students and will conduct all the activities, excursions, mealtimes and evening entertainment in French.

For many students this is their first taste of using another language in a real world context, providing a sense of purpose and enjoyment to their learning. And as students become more accustomed to speaking in a second language, they grow in confidence.

What makes our French school language programmes different?

Most French language school trips offer students the chance to experience a different culture with limited opportunity to interact with native-speakers along the way. Though these trips provide first-hand experience of the language being studied in the classroom, teachers may find it difficult to demonstrate sufficient educational benefit and value as there is only a limited chance for students to use the target language. Our French language school trips are different because we provide students with unlimited exposure to the French language and native speakers, leading to sustainable improvement in students’ fluency, vocabulary and confidence.

  • Expose students to wider cultural topics and insight into the francophone world
  • Allow pupils to practise speaking on a variety of topics
  • Native speakers promote correct pronunciation, encourage conversations and build confidence
  • Activity encourage students to speak spontaneously and at greater length
