Bring French to life with our flexible Normandy Experience tour

Our Normandy Experience programme combines authentic French language immersion with the freedom to create a trip that suits your group’s unique learning goals.

Just like our centre-based residentials, your students will be accompanied at all times by a native French-speaking animateur who leads the group entirely in French – from breakfast to evening entertainment – to maximise language exposure.

What makes Normandy Experience different is the flexibility to build a bespoke itinerary. Whether you want to focus on local culture, French language, history, or a cross-curricular mix, we’ll work with you to design an itinerary that meets your objectives:

  • Explore the rich history of the region with a visit to the D-Day landing beaches
  • Experience rural French life with activities like a goat’s cheese farm visit or town trail
  • You can even add a day of language-led outdoor activities at one of our Normandy centres, subject to availabilty

Students benefit from meaningful interactions with local people, practical use of French in real-life situations – such as a market mission – and a structured French workbook to reinforce their learning.

Let us use our local knowledge to craft a memorable, educational experience tailored to your group. Please contact us for a bespoke quote.

Arromanches Excursion

Arromanches is at the heart of the D-Day Landings. There are museums with vivid and emotive displays, including the famous 360° cinema with unreleased footage from war correspondents, filmed on D-Day. There is also the Musée du Débarquement in Arromanches Les Bains, built on the site of the Mulberry Harbour, with working models and film to explain this incredible technical feat.

Mont Saint Michel

Mont Saint-Michel Excursion

This island and its surrounding bay are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Scale the cobblestoned streets to reach the churches and the famous gothic-style abbey. Groups with an Animateur will experience a guided barefoot walk across the bay, which is a highlight for students.

Saint Malo

Saint-Malo Excursion

Saint-Malo is a historic walled city with a surrounding beach. Central to the cobblestoned old town is the Roman Catholic Saint-Malo Cathedral. Popular visits also include the town museum and the Great Aquarium, home to 11,000 marine animals.

Bayeux Tapestry

Bayeux Town Visit

Famous as the home of the 70 metre-long Bayeux Tapestry, the medieval town is also home to the largest British military cemetery in France, making it a key destination for groups studying WWII history. Also, don't miss the Cathedral, located in the centre of town. Note the Bayeux Tapestry is closed until Summer 2027.

Bell

Villedieu-Les-Poêles

Just 15 minutes from Château de la Baudonnière, groups can visit the town's Bell Foundry, Copper Workshop and Pewter Museum. It is rich in history and has a bustling morning market every Tuesday.

With the mission of promoting peace, this emphasizes the importance of learning from the atrocities of the Second World War and, in particular, the D-Day landings to prevent future conflicts. Expect an immersive experience featuring artefacts, films and interactive displays investigating the causes and consequences of WWII.

French language immersion school trip to the Opal Coast of France

A chance for students to be immersed in local culture and produce and to pick up some souvenirs, a visit to the market is a great opportunity for learners to interact in French with the welcoming stall owners.

WWII Cemeteries

There are many cemeteries in France which serve as poignant memorials to the fallen of WWII. Visits to these sites complement History tours and allow students to gain a greater understanding of the loss of life and the human effects of the war.

Voyager's French Language Immersion Trips featured in Tes

Tes interviewed Catherine Montgomery, French teacher at Thornhill College, about her experience of Voyager School Travel's Normandy Experience French Language Immersion programme.

In the Tes article, entitled "Total Immersion is the way to teach languages", Catherine explains the educational value of French language immersion programmes for students saying that "immersion introduces students to a language in context, so that they view it as a component of an entire culture, rather than something static in a textbook."

Here's what teachers think

I would always recommend Voyager as a company to travel with and have done so to former colleagues. The service provided is excellent. Staff are always very patient and efficient, I always have many last minute questions which are answered very quickly
Kirstine Hales, Head of MFL at The Grange Junior School
The two animateurs, Mikael and Patrick, only spoke French throughout. They were a lesson to us MFL teachers as how to maximise use of target language.
Valerie Turner, MFL Teacher at Leicester Grammar School
Excellent programme - fit for purpose. Outstanding animatrice - Gini this year. Very warm, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Went over and above to make sure that we had all our needs met.
Mary-Louise Priest, MFL Teacher at Outwood Academy Easingwold
