Media Studies Student Convention: 26-29 January 2027
Our annual Media Studies Student Convention offers learners a rare opportunity to hear from media professionals working at the heart of the industry. Hosted in Disney Village, the convention combines inspirational talks with real-life case studies that students can reference in their coursework and exams.
Designed to complement the curriculum, the event explores contemporary issues in media production, distribution and audience engagement. Students gain practical insight into how major brands like Disney use storytelling, technology and digital platforms to shape audience experiences.
Every package includes a 2-day hopper pass for both Disney® Parks, giving students the chance to explore Disney’s media output in context. Assignments prompt them to analyse everything from branding and representation to audience engagement, encouraging a critical understanding of Disney as a global media powerhouse.
Meet last year's speakers:
- Lisa Campbell, Director - ITN/Creative Cities Convention
With a career spanning roles in magazines (Broadcast, Campaign), television (ITN) and events (Creative Cities, Edinburgh Television Festival), Lisa will share her fascinating, first-person insight into the world of magazine and television news journalism – learning about News Values, Regulation and editorial judgement.
- Jonathan Stephens, Head of Media Studies at Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys.
With over thirty years' experience in education and creator of our new, curriculum-linked resources, Jonathan will share his insight into media theories in practice at Disney.
- Nick Webb, Partnerships at Disney Destinations International, The Walt Disney Company.
Strategic cross channel marketing strategy and examples of reaching different audiences with a variety of media and messaging.
Students will be shown examples of real-life marketing strategies involving media synergy and convergence, the use of audience demographics, and the utilisation of the many different IPs owned by The Walt Disney Company, as well as examples of intertextuality and post-modernism used in its marketing, theme parks and hotels.
Combine the trip with your Business Studies department colleagues – their Student Convention is at the same time. Read what students learned at our Business Studies Student Convention for a taste of what to expect.
