Discover the history of Poland in the UNESCO-listed city of Kraków. The beautiful cultural centre has maintained a mix of medieval and baroque architectural styles and remained relatively un-cosmopolitan, making it a popular destination for history school groups, particularly those studying WWII, the Holocaust and Judaism.
On a school trip to Kraków and Auschwitz, your students will learn about the devastating impact of WWII on the Jewish people of Europe and the historical importance of key locations like the Kraków Ghetto and Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp by seeing them firsthand.
As well as advancing your students’ understanding of WWII and the Holocaust, there are also many chances to learn about the wider history of Europe by visiting some of Krakóws beautiful medieval and baroque sites such as Wawel Castle, as well as some weird and wonderful moments provided by the underground Wieliczka Salt Mine and a folklore-themed evening meal and performance.
Learn the history of the Holocaust and the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on this 3.5 hour guided tour of the former concentration camp. This is a stark and gripping reminder of the horrors of WWII that always resonates with students.
A memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and a celebration of Jewish culture. The photographic exhibits look at the history of Jewish communities in Poland pre and post-WWI & WWII. We can also arrange for your group to speak to a Holocaust survivor to coincide with this visit.
Take a guided underground tour through Kraków's fantastical disused salt mine which is practically an underground city. The fun tour explores all the twists and turns and requires a lot of walking, but it's worth it to marvel at the chandeliers, pools, chapels and statues carved by miners from rock salt.
Take a 90-minute guided tour of Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory. Your students will learn the remarkable story of Oskar Schindler and how he safeguarded 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust by employing them at his factory during WWII.
Experience the local culture through food and fun! Your students will learn about Polish folklore by enjoying a traditional Polish evening meal with a performance from folk dancers and an accompanying live band.
Explore Kraków and learn about its prominence in European history on a 4-hour guided walking tour of the city. You will explore the medieval square featuring the Cloth Hall and visit important sites including Wawel Cathedral and its royal crypts, Sigismund Tower and St. Mary's Basilica.
Kazimierz is the historic and contemporary Jewish quarter of Kraków. Here you will find the 15th century Old Synagogue, which is one of the most important Jewish sites in Europe. The district was the centre of the Jewish population of Kraków for over 500 years before being targeted and destroyed in WWII.
