This historic city of Cartagena is a short stop away and is an exciting place to explore on a day trip.

The Murcia region is well linked by airlines and groups can fly from most UK airports. Our top tip, is to avoid the peak months between June and July to get the best value for money and to ensure availability for your group. Our Monitores will use their local expertise to organise the most suitable activities for the time of year you are visiting.

Murcia

Murcia is a sunny, slow-paced city home to baroque buildings, cathedrals and castles. We recommend soaking up the ambience of the city centre in Plaza de las Flores.

Cartagena

Cartagena

Cartagena is a port city with huge historical importance. With a great imprint left by the Roman civilization, an influence from French architecture and a Moorish castle, the city is a real cultural melting pot. The main square is a great area for shopping and free time for your group.

Cartagena boat trip

Cartagena boat trip

Board a boat for a trip across the bay where you will disembark at Christmas Fort to learn about Cartagena's fortresses before heading back. Students can also learn about the military history of Cartagena whilst on the boat in a voiceover that plays in multiple languages.

Roman Theatre Museum

Roman Theatre Museum

This huge 1st century BC roman theatre has been magnificently restored and is an impressive sight. The adjoining museum is a really interesting visit as it details the origins, discovery and restoration of the theatre. All exhibits are in English and Spanish.

Cathedral de Santa Maria

Cathedral de Santa Maria

Marvel at the Cathedral Church of Saint Mary in Murcia and the surrounding square. The 600-year old cathedral has a grand baroque exterior and gives way to a gothic style interior.

Cabo de Palos

Cabo de Palos

Visit Cape Palos, a small peninsula in Murcia. It is a traditional fishing village with a beautiful volcanic coastline.

Spanish street market

Spanish Street Market

Visit a street market abuzz with local people and fresh Spanish produce. Students are given a market mission by their monitores requiring them to use their Spanish language skills to interact with the friendly stall owners.

Aquopolis

Aquopolis Torrevieja

Aquopolis is a waterpark with over 15 attractions including waterslides, rapids, a zip line and a river. Students can have fun racing each other in teams of four on the toboggan slides.

Parque Regional Salinas

San Pedro del Pinatar Nature Reserve

This wetland reserve is an area of great environmental importance attracting an abundance of flora and fauna (including flamingos!). There are six beaches, sand dunes, and mud baths where your students can cover themselves in mud for the medicinal properties and as a fun activity! We recommend visiting in autumn or spring where there are high levels of biodiversity.

Our Spanish language immersion programme at Arbolar includes the following as standard:
