In the heart of Andalucía, the culturally-rich town of El Puerto makes the perfect base for an authentic Spanish experience for your students. Our immersive programme is made up of guided visits to local attractions like a medieval castle, botanical gardens and a market where students can interact with stallholders and practise their language skills, Spanish lessons taught at the Spark centre and you can enjoy guided excursions to your choice of nearby classic Moorish cities such as Seville and Cádiz.

Our native-speaking monitores are local experts and will immerse your students in the culture, creating opportunities for them to use their Spanish speaking and comprehension skills in real-life situations. Your monitor will meet you on arrival and lead your group for the duration of your trip. Your monitor will work with you to understand your group's level and adapt their approach to best fit your students. Monitors also run a programme of evening activities to keep your students occupied and having fun all day!

Itinerary

Suggested 5-day/4 night itinerary

Day 1

  • Arrive

Day 2

  • Day trip to Seville 
  • Visit La Giralda Cathedral 
  • Tour of the Alcázar

  • Walk to Plaza de España, soak in the sights and time to buy souvenirs
  • Evening games and quiz or flamenco class

Day 3

  • 2 hours Spanish lesson 
  • Ferry to Cadiz 
  • Visit and tour of the watchtower Torre Taviera 
  • Churros and chocolate tasting 
  • Visit botanical gardens Parque Genoves 
  • Evening meal out in Cadiz - typical tapas! 

Day 4

  • 2 hour Spanish lesson 
  • Morning tour of the Moorish Castillo de San Marcos 
  • Visit a local market followed by an afternoon on the beach  
  • Beach Kayaking or beach games 
  • Spanish cooking class - learn how to make genuine paella

Day 5

  • Packing and leave your rooms 
  • Transfer to airport for your trip home 
Location

El Puerto de Santa Maria is located in Andalucia, in the idyllic setting of Cádiz and is nearby to beautiful Spanish cities like Seville, Granada, Ronda, Malaga, and Gibraltar make planning day trips and excursions easy. El Puerto is a town with a rich history and culture, the perfect place to experience the authentic Spanish lifestyle. Unlike the popular Spanish cities, English is not as widely spoken here, so students can really maximise their learning in a traditional Spanish environment.

The Spark residential language centre is a renovated hostel just for schools. The accommodation is located in an enviable position just a 15-minute walk from the town centre and beach, and has numerous chill out areas and a big roof terrace great for barbecues and dance lessons! All meals during your school trip to Spain are included and dietary requirements can be catered for. Many evening activities are based onsite and are Spanish-themed such as cooking paella cooking and salsa dancing.

Barrio Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz barrio or neighbourhood is a historic Jewish quarter. It's a charming area that still has a real old fashioned and traditional Spanish feel to it. Get lost amongst the narrow streets and stop in a local restaurant or bar for a refreshment.

Cádiz

Take a ferry and explore the grand marble streets of Cadiz, a vibrant and lively city buzzing with colourful markets and souvenir shops aplenty.

Castle of San Marcos

Castillo de San Marcos tour

Visit the local medieval Castillo de San Marcos. Beautifully preserved despite being 800 years old - built on top of a Moorish mosque. It is also a wine cellar! You will stop for refreshments of juice and snacks, and staff can enjoy local sherry tasting sourced from the region.

Parque Genoves

Spend the afternoon at botanical gardens Parque Genoves - a beautiful oasis where locals go to escape the heat of the city. Spot the Green parrots in the trees, pass through the exotic plants and walk through the manmade waterfall.

La Giralda

La Giralda

The Giralda is the bell tower of Seville Cathedral and a famous monument in Seville. You can climb to the top and look out across the city from above.

Plaza de espana

Plaza de España

Visit Plaza de España, the grand plaza and marvel at the stunning Moorish architecture. There is a canal that runs through the plaza and you can even rent a boat and paddle along it!

Royal Alcazar of Seville

Royal Alcázar of Seville

Visit the Alcazar, an incredible Royal Palace built for the Christian King Peter of Castile, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See influences from the Arabic, late Middle Ages through to Renaissance and Baroque periods.

Seville day trip

Coach transfer to the vibrant city of Seville for the day. Your Monitore will lead your group on a guided tour of the city and show you all the best spots with some free time too!

Cadiz overlook

Torre Tavira

Climb Torre Tavira, one of the few Camera Obscuras in Europe built in the 1700s, and be greeted with amazing views over the city. A guide will explain the history behind the landmarks that students can see.
