Prague - Music Tour Specialists

A city for music lovers

If you love music then the Voyager music school tour of Prague is for you. This romantic city, with its stunning medieval architecture, has attracted composers musicians and music lovers for centuries. Mozart, one of Prague’s more notable guests, completed his most popular opera, ‘Don Giovani,’ at the Dusek family residence in Bertramaka - it later premiered in Prague. Another idea is to take Voyager's ‘Composers in Prague’ tour which includes the Dvorak museum at Villa Amerika and the Bedrich Smetana Museum.

The Czech Museum of Music, housed in the former baroque church of St. Maria Magdelena, is a must for all music tours. The permanent exhibition ‘Man-Instrument-Music’ describes the fine relationship between human, human talent, craft and skill, and the instruments themselves. There are 70,000 artefacts on display which document the history of European music, including some rather unusual and beautiful instruments. Visitors can listen to different instruments and music on the earphones provided. Prague also has a whole host of exciting concert venues including St. Nicholas Church and St. Vitus Cathedral, a gothic masterpiece that took nearly six years to complete. There is a range of unique, quirky and informal venues as well, many of which can be found in some of the Medieval spa towns on the outskirts of Prague. For a fun night out and an insight into Bohemia’s traditional musical culture, go on a Czech Folk Night Excursion for an all-inclusive night of food and entertainment in the form of Czech folk music and dance. Participation is always readily welcomed!

Czech Museum of Music

The museum is a wonderful way to discover more about musical instruments while giving a full insight into Czech musical history. The first room conveys the diversity of popular music in the 20th century, to the accompaniment of an original composition by Milan Cais, ‘The Four Elements.’ From here the visitor enters the world of experimental microtonal music – a unique part of the museum’s collection. One of the highlights of the museum is its documentation of the Prague school of violin-making. Don’t miss out on the folk music exhibition, where you will see traditional Bohemian musical instruments and scores.

Testimonials

We had a very successful trip to the Opal Coast. The accommodation was excellent and the animateur did a fantastic job immersing our students into the French language and culture. All of the staff at Voyager were extremely helpful and recommended a selection of excellent activities that the students all thoroughly enjoyed. We are already planning our return visit for next year! Grace Chubb, Charters School
