Overview

Christmas market school trips are typically a short 2-night whistle-stop jaunt, so it's worth opting for the markets closest to the UK to maximise your time at your destination. This makes Aachen your best bet for your class of German learners. With the coach journey from Calais clocking in at just six hours, you won't find any Christmas market in Germany easier to reach.

Set against the magnificent backdrop of the gothic Aachen Town Hall & Cathedral—one of the oldest in Europe—this Christmas market school trip to Germany will inspire all the yuletide joy and winter wonder you'd expect in bucketloads. Don't miss a visit to the Christmas market in nearby Monschau, a quintessential German town with charming half-timbered houses.

When to visit the German Christmas markets?

The main Christmas market in Aachen has 120 stalls around the cathedral and town hall, with two smaller festive food markets nearby. Festivities in Aachen begin around the third week of November and run to the weekend before Christmas. The Monschau Christmas market typically opens a week later - from the last weekend of November.
