Going on a school trip can literally be a life changing event, spark lifelong interests and hobbies, allow students to make new friendships and create memories they’ll treasure forever.

Learning outside the classroom is also an important part of children and young people's educational development.  Not only do these trips assist with learning new skills, it gives them new responsibilities and provides personal, social and educational experiences that are not provided from the standard classroom.

Outdoor activities, educational cultural visits and immersing young people in Language within a new country (see our French, Spanish or German immersion school trips) allows children to share their new experiences and to solve problems alongside their peers. They also teach them to become more aware of risk, safety and personal responsibility in controlled and supervised conditions.

  • Kinaesthetic learning; proven to be a successful learning style in which learning takes place by the students carrying out physical activities, rather than listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations
  • Historical facts, biology and physics can be experienced first-hand on a school trip

What Ofsted says

According to Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education), learning outside the classroom makes a clear contribution to the learning and development of young people.

"When planned and implemented well, learning outside the classroom contributed significantly to raising standards and improving pupils' personal, social and emotional development." Learning Outside the Classroom: How far should you go? Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) (2008)
