Ni hao to Mandarin lessons

With the recent announcement by George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer that  £10m has been allocated to recruit and train teachers to teach Mandarin to GCSE level, there has never been a better time to consider a school trip to China.

In a speech to the Shanghai Stock Exchange the Chancellor suggested 5,000 more pupils will learn the language across the UK by 2020.

"In Britain, there is a hunger to learn more and understand more about this great civilisation," he told an audience of Chinese financiers.

"I see it at home in Downing Street every night as my 12-year-old daughter does her Mandarin homework."
