Exciting Activities Week Ideas for Schools

18 Apr 2019, 16:32

Schools across the country are gearing up for activities week/curriculum enrichment week this July. Activities week provides a great opportunity for students to learn new skills in or outside of school, which is, of course, a value we share as educational travel specialists. To provide some inspiration for teachers for activities week 2019, we have shortlisted our top five suggestions that offer an exciting change to traditional learning for school students.

The Excitement of Activities Week in Normandy

Embark on a residential school activity trip in France, at an affordable price that rivals school activity trips based in the UK. Why not make your activities week trip all that more exciting by venturing to Normandy and giving your school group a truly adventurous camping experience, a short walk from the white sandy beaches of Annoville?

An active programme of watersports and on-land activities including paddleboarding on the sea and canoeing on the river Sélune as well as high ropes and climbing will have your students running for the sign-up list before activities week. What's even better is that our fully-qualified staff lead and instruct the activities, even keeping pupils entertained in the evening with a full programme of fun evening activities on site at the Voyager camping village.

Spend Activities Week Locally in London

You don't have to leave the country to have an activities week filled with memorable experiences for you and your students. Shakespeare's Globe is always a hit with our school groups on a tour of London. The reconstructed historic Globe Theatre is an engaging exploration of the works of the most celebrated English writer in history. Take a guided tour to be transported back to 16th-century England. Located centrally, right on the Thames and next door to the Tate Modern, there’s plenty to keep your school group occupied for the rest of the day.

Drama students, in particular, will be keen to head to the West End to experience the stage magic of theatreland. The west end shows most popular with our school groups include Wicked, Matilda and Aladdin.

If you’re looking for a really out of the box idea to excite students, the Kip in a Ship experience on the HMS Belfast certainly fits the bill. Sleep on the historic WWII Royal Navy warship, moored on the Thames, with strikingly close views of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. See the capital from a unique angle, with breakfast and a guided tour of the ship included.

The Most Adventurous School Activities Week in France

For the most adventurous school groups, a school activities week trip to the Ardèche region of France is a showstopper. Our standard nine-day programme can be condensed to a six-day trip, making this option more accessible without compromising on the thrills. Our fully-qualified adventure staff create a safe environment for pupils to challenge themselves in a truly wild and jaw-dropping setting, learning new skills and growing in confidence. Providing such a strong opportunity for personal development, what better way is there to spend enrichment week?

Brace yourselves for a three-day descent down the river and navigate the rapids that run through what is known as the Grand Canyon of Europe. Sleep under the stars for the night in our bivouac camp, which is always a highlight of the school trip for our groups and a lasting memory.
