ABTA speaker joins our Travel & Tourism student convention at Disneyland® Paris

Danny Waine is Head of Membership at ABTA – The Travel Association, Board Director at the Institute of Travel & Tourism (ITT) and Vice Chair of the ITT’s Education & Training Committee and Co-founder of the ‘Future You’ careers initiative.

Before joining ABTA in October 2020, Danny was Commercial Manager at Swiss holiday home specialist Interhome Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hotelplan Group. Prior to that, Danny was International Business Development Manager at Italian fashion and design school Istituto Marangoni, joining after 10 years as Co-founder & Director at overseas wedding specialist, Perfect Weddings Abroad.

A travel and tourism graduate, Danny has worked at three different ABTA Members including running his own business, was a Non-Executive Director at wellbeing social enterprise ‘Talent Courtyard’ and has been a judge at various awards including Young Enterprise UK. A supporter of emerging talent in the sector, in 2021 Danny won the ‘Male Ambassador’ Award from the Association of Women Travel Executives (AWTE) and was shortlisted for the ITT ‘Mentor of the Year’ in 2020.

What will your Travel & Tourism students learn from Danny?

As co-founder of the Institute of Travel & Tourism's (ITT) ‘Future You’ initiative, Danny is well placed to talk on employment in the industry and share his tips on how college leavers can best prepare for a career in travel. At the convention he will cover: 

• Fascinating case studies of college leavers who have built their careers in travel 
• Skills and development required for getting that first job in travel and tourism

He will also be drawing on his experience as Head of Membership at ABTA to cover the role of travel trade associations and regulatory bodies, including: 

• Information and support for industry
• Industry rules, regulations and safety standards
• Financial protection of customers
• Bonds, charters, compensation etc
