During your tour, students will gain insight into the different influences that have shaped modern Vietnam, French rule, the Vietnam war and the reunification of the country. These influences are reflected in the cafe lined streets to the traditional sizzling street food vendors, the thought-provoking museums and the fascinating network of Cu-Chi Tunnels.
Our Vietnam school tour starts in Hanoi, the capital city in the north, which offers a fascinating blend of Vietnamese and French culture. From here, travel down the coast to Ho Chi Minh City in the South, formelry Saigon, the best destination for learning about the Vietnam War and its effects on the local people and environment. Highlights along the way include a visit to the magical Halong Bay, the Citadel, The Forbidden Purple city, The Imperial Museum, Ancient Capital Tombs, Marble Mountains, the Cholon Market, Reunification Palace, War Crimes Museum, the Mekong Delta and many more.
If you are looking to give something back, we also offer community interaction programmes in Mai Chau, which is located in a magnificent valley 150 kms southwest of Hanoi. Mai Chau is home to Thai ethnic minority, who live in remarkable wooden stilt houses. Students can visit inspiring social enterprises and engage in light activities such as a cooking class with the friendly locals, basket-weaving and be fully immersed into village life.
At the Cu Chi Tunnels, you will learn about the conditions soldiers lived in during the Vietnam war with a veteran guide accompanying your group. The claustrophobic tunnels were central to strategic operations, including the Tet offensive. The tunnels also acted as supply routes for hospitals and guerilla fighters. Today they are recognised as a testimony to the Vietnamese people’s resilience.
Explore Vietnam’s capital on a cyclo. The ride will take around the oldest part of Hanoi and you’ll notice the 36 streets bearing names such as Rice Street, Silk Street and Paper Street to reflect the historic businesses that used to operate in the area.
Visit the structure that houses the remains of the revered former president who led Vietnam’s campaign for independence from colonial rule.
The Hoa Lo Prison was used by the French to detain political prisoners, and later by North Vietnam for prisoners of war during the Vietnam War. After its demolition, the prison gatehouse became a museum. You will learn about the French colonial period and see the guillotine room and the quarters where political prisoners were forced to live.
Take a walk through the charming Ngoc Ha village to visit Huu Tiep Lake, which is the site of wreckage from an American military B-52 plane. The lake and wreckage is a monument to the Vietnam war victims.
This is Hanoi's most visited temple and for good reason. It sits on a small island accessible by bridge and is a great sight to see on your school trip to Vietnam.
An ancient collection of courtyards, gardens and architecture built in homage to the Chinese scholar Confucius. Considered the oldest university in Vietnam, the Temple of Literature dates back nearly one thousand years!
Experience the art of water puppetry, which is a Vietnamese tradition that dates back as far as the 11th century! Puppeteers make miniature ornate puppets dance on water with the accompaniment of a live band.
