Ski France Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier school ski trip, France

One of France’s top ski resorts, Serre Chevalier has plenty of Alpine charm and boasts more than 300 days of sunshine a year. What's more, we've got a great deal for February half term.

  • Voyager ski rep
  • Christmas to Easter
  • Evening entertainment

13 villages make up the great ski resort of Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier is a collection of French mountain villages which includes the walled city of Briancon, Europe’s highest town, at one end, and Le Monêtier-les-Bains, famed for thermal springs, at the other. In between are the other two main villages of Chantmerle and Villeneuve. The area also lays claim to over 300 days of sunshine a year.

Schools love the authentic Alpine feel combined with a high standard of facilities and attractions you would expect in one of France’s top resorts. The resort is just over 14 hours from Calais by coach and within 2 hours of its nearest airport.

It would be difficult to beat the Serre Chevalier ski area which has many entry points to minimise queueing at peak times. There are a huge variety of runs of all levels over 50 for beginners, another 50 for intermediates and 20 more for the experts. Skiing is possible from the lowest height of 1200m in Briancon to almost glacier height (2860m) above Monetier. School groups will sample wide open snow bowls at higher altitudes as well as stunning runs back through the trees to resort level. In the Monetier section, you can drop the best part of a mile in altitude without a stop. Great progression from wide and plentiful nursery slopes and an enviable snow record (the high north and east-facing slopes keep their snow until May)  makes it ideal for any school group.

  • One of France's top resorts
  • Large and varied ski area
  • Totally snow sure

Serre Chevalier Auberge de violaine

Auberge de Violaine

  • The Auberge de Violaine hotel is a traditional French two-star hotel. It is family run and has a capacity of 90 beds. All rooms are ensuite with students typically staying three or four per room. There is a spacious restaurant and bar area above which is a large recreational space with a pool table and plenty of seating where school groups can relax.
  • The Violaine sits on the edge of Serre Chevalier’s highest village, Monetier les Bains. The village centre is 200m away. It is 900m from the nearest lift and Monetier slopes and 3-4km from the lifts and nursery slopes in Villeneuve. Briancon, at the end of the valley, is 12km away.
  • All rooms are en-suite and have a TV. The hotel offers recreation and relaxation areas, restaurant, bar and free wi-fi included.
  • Full board with picnic lunch.

Chalet Petit Sport

Chalet Petit Sport

  • This is an ideal place for a small group wishing to experience a chalet-style stay with direct access to the slopes – a rarity for school groups. The chalet was recently refurbished in a slightly retro style including gold radiators. The Petit Sport takes a maximum of 36 making it perfect for a group of 33 children and 3 adults travelling by air.
  • The Petit Sport is on the Villeneuve village limit alongside the ice racing track. There are plans to build a new ski lift right beside the chalet giving our groups direct access to the ski area from December 2021. In the meantime, the nearest lift, the Pontillas cable car, is less than 300m away. Nursery slopes are found at the top of the Pontillas and by the Frejus and Aravet lifts.
  • All rooms are ensuite. The chalet has a living, dining and chill-out areas where school groups can relax and the hotel offers free wi-fi.
  • Full board with picnic lunch.
