Discover rich cultural heritage, challenging history and a mysterious past
Cambodia has a rich cultural heritage, challenging history and a mysterious past. The Khmer civilisation and temple complex at Angkor Wat is a highlight for students of Religious Studies.
Offering iconic temples, ancient culture, rivers, jungles and rice paddies a tour to Cambodia can bring the key subjects of Religious Studies, History, Geography and Biology to life.
Highlights include exploring the culture and history of the capital, Phnom Penh, to visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, the National Museum, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Choeung Ek Genocidal Centre killing fields and Sambor Prei Kuk temple. Then onto Siem Reap to visit the country's largest religious monument Angkor Wat, the Bayon temple, the floating village of Ton le Sap, the Landmine museum and a visit Banteay Amil temple by Ox-Cart.
We can also incorporate community interaction into your itinerary with a day in rural Knapor and Chansar an hour south of Siem Reap and home to around 15,000 people who rely on agriculture for the majority of their income. The biggest issues they face are poor weather, a decline in the natural materials they use in their handicrafts and limited access to quality education. Students will visit a junior high school, learn how to make brooms and learn why this is an important livelihood in the community, ending their visit with an ox-cart ride through the field and a monk-blessing ceremony.
