Take your students on an action packed trip to the Ardèche Gorge

This adrenaline-filled adventure trip runs as a 9-day or 6-day programme and is designed to build students’ confidence and teamwork, providing plenty of fun and adventure in a safe and closely supervised environment. The trip allows children to learn new skills, challenge themselves and bond as a group; with benefits which will extend back to the classroom.

Described as the Grand Canyon of Europe, the Ardèche Gorge is a thrilling base for this fun-packed school adventure trip including high ropes, stand up paddleboarding and a gorge trek that will be sure to get your students' blood pumping! The highlight of the trip is a 2-day canoe descent through the river rapids of the Ardèche Gorge. All activites are led by our qualified team of English speaking adventure instructors.

Itinerary

The days on which the below activities take place on your trip is subject to change.

Day 1

  • Depart school and travel by coach overnight to the Ardèche in Southern France

Day 2

  • Arrive at Base du Cros 
  • Meet our team of professional instructors who'll be looking after your group throughout your stay
  • Orientation of the campsite and fire drill
  • Swimming in the river
  • Evening activiity such as Olympics, team building, problem-solving and disco

     

Day 3

  • You'll be challenged to build a raft and put it to the test in a practise course on our private beach
  • Trek to the top of Foss hill to plant a flag! Learn about the regional flora and fauna on the way up
  • Evening activity with your instructors

Day 4

  • Full day excursion to a nearby high ropes and adventure course
  • You will spend the full day on four increasing difficulty courses with zip lines and treetop challenges
  • Evening activity – River briefing before your river decent tomorrow

Day 5

  • First day of your epic 2-day kayak descent
  • Set off from our riverside basecamp and paddle under the Pont d'arc
  • Through the gorge, hop out of your kayak and swim down the river and jump off some of the rock formations if you're feeling brave enough
  • At the end of your first day, transfer back to the campsite to dry off and wind down for an evening BBQ before a good night's rest

Day 6

  • After breakfast, transfer to yesterday's disembarkation point and jump back into your kayak to continue your epic wild water adventure
  • Keep an eye out for the local wildlife—you might catch a glimpse of wild boar, eagles, vultures and even snakes!
  • Finish your river descent and transfer back to the campsite for games and dinner

Day 7

  • Our guided trek along the stunning Ardèche gorge follows the footsteps of the French resistance during WWII and brings to life an incredible true story of battles that took place
  • Next up channel your inner Bear Grylls and learn what it takes to survive in the wilderness in this "Survivor" activity. Our instructors will teach you all about three elements— how to find water, make fire and build shelters

Day 8

  • Gorge trek - A trek into the mighty Ardèche gorge follows the footsteps of the French resistance during WWII and brings to life an incredible true story of battles that took place
  • Afternoon stand-up paddleboarding along the riverside of the mighty Ardèche gorge
  • Depart early evening after dinner

Day 9

  • Arrive back at school
Accommodation & meals

Our adventure groups are based at Base du Cros campsite which is set on the banks of the Ardèche river with direct access for your water activities and even a fresh water spring. The well appointed base has clean modern toilet and shower facilities, tuck shop and a snack bar where you can grab a coffee or celebratory ice cream. There is plenty to keep students occupied between adventures, including a safe river swimming spot, football pitch, volleyball and boule courts, table tennis and table football.

Students enjoy well balanced home-cooked meals prepared by our own team. Breakfast consists of freshly baked bread with an assortment of spreads as well as cereal, yoghurts and fruit and we provide freshly-prepared packed lunches on a daily basis. Meals are served al fresco or in our dedicated all-weather marquee.

Teachers can relax in the evening because our activity instructors will lead a full programme of evening activities such as nature treks and the ever-popular cabaret.

Foss Hill trek

Walking boots at the ready! Trek to the top of rocky Foss hill and plant a flag at the summit! Your instructors will teach you all about the varied flora and fauna you encounter on the way up.
