Azores School Trip

Created by the collision of the European, American and African tectonic plates and seemingly alone in the middle of the ocean, the Azores are some of the most naturally beautiful islands in the world. There are nine major Azores Islands in which 3 are classified as 'biospheres' by UNESCO which gives you some idea as to their unspoilt beauty and unique ecosystem.

This school trip would be centred on the main island of Sao Miguel. A relatively small island only 60km long and just under 16km at its widest, this does not mean to say there is not a wealth of incredible things to see and do. You will have the chance to see humpback whales enjoying their natural environment, hike to a crystal clear lake in a volcanic crater or visit the Terra Nostra Botanical Gardens and see the attempts to maintain and protect the islands’ indigenous plants.

Away from the natural beauty of the Azores, the city of Ponta Delgada is a great place for students to explore and get to grips with the culture of Portugal. Churches, town halls, parks, shops and much more are all available to visit, giving your students a great taste gain of authentic Portuguese living.

The Azores really is a hidden gem of Europe, and we are sure that teachers and students alike will fall in love with the natural beauty and Portuguese culture during a school trip to the Azores. Book today!

A Focus on Geography

Visiting these unique islands is ideal for geography students looking to broaden their knowledge of ecosystems, volcanoes, rock formations, global warming and more. While exploring the Azore islands, it's worth noting that you will be surrounded by some of the tallest (not highest) mountains in the world - although the peaks are not that high above sea level, they are very tall from their underwater bases to their peaks.

The volcanic structures mean bubbling hot springs and lava tubes are a great attraction for students when visiting the Azores. Medieval cities, fabulous seafood

Once a leading colonial power Portugal is still blessed with the legacy of it's Golden Age, the medieval cities of Lisbon and Porto attest to that with a huge variety of historic attractions such as the Alfama district and the Castelo de São Jorge, a Moorish Castle nestled in the heart of the capital.

A school tour to Portugal would suit students focusing on History, Science, Nutrition and of course Portuguese. If you hope to spend the tour exploring the the interior and coast, you could start in Porto and learn about the city's importance strategically in the 15th - 18th centuries, along with it's most famous export..port wine.

"The arrangements for our school trip were flawless. Everything happened as and when it should have, the accommodation was very suitable for a school group- particularly from the point of view of security. The students had a great time, and the price was excellent! We're going back very soon using Voyager School Travel, and I'm hoping to make our trips a twice yearly event - using Voyager."

Enchanting Islands

The Azores, an isolated series of volcanic islands, lie 1360 km west of their sovereign nation, Portugal. A visit to this remote mid-Atlantic archipelago will delight all students, but because of its volcanic origins and fragile ecosystem, it is of particular interest to students of Geology, Geography and Science.

The group of nine islands sit above the junction where the African, American and Eurasian continental plates meet. As you enjoy your tour of the archipelago, it’s worth noting that you are actually surrounded by some of the tallest (not highest) mountains in the world – although the peaks are not that high above sea level, they are very tall from their underwater bases to their peaks. The tour will be centred on the main island of Sao Miguel. It is relatively small at just over 60 km long and just under 16 km at its widest, but that doesn’t mean to say there aren’t a wealth of things to see and do.

You will be able to see humpback whales enjoying their own environment, hike to a crystal clear lake in a volcanic crater and visit the Terra Nostra Botanical Gardens and see the attempts to maintain and protect the islands’ indigenous plants.

Add life to the curriculum

Whatever key stage your students are studying, a Voyager tour of the Azores will bring the subjects of Geology, Geography and Science vividly to life.

The unique volcanic landscape and the isolated, but threatened, biosphere provide a stunning backdrop to a Voyager tour that will stimulate and educate your students.
