The Ardèche Adventure Centre

Described as the Grand Canyon of Europe, the Ardèche gorge is a thrilling setting that offers plenty of opportunities for your students to challenge themselves under the watchful eye of our professional sports instructors.

All our school groups are based in a dedicated section of a 3-star campsite on the winding banks of the Chassezac river, only 20 minutes from the Ardèche gorge. The campsite is well equipped for school groups with an on-site swimming pool, games area and shop. Students stay in comfortable bell tents, with proper beds, electric sockets and lighting while teachers are accommodated in their own comfortable mobile homes.

Students enjoy well balanced home-cooked meals, prepared by our own team, including a French-themed night where children can try frogs legs and snails! Breakfast consists of freshly baked bread with an assortment of spreads as well as cereal, yoghurts and fruit and we provide freshly-prepared packed lunches on a daily basis. Meals are served al fresco or in our dedicated all-weather marquee.

Teachers can relax in the evening because there is plenty to keep the kids occupied and our activity instructors will lead a full programme of evening activities such as nature treks and the ever-popular cabaret. Finally, every evening the team will run through the following day's activities with your group.

Activities and Learning

The 9-day or 6-day programme is designed to build students’ confidence and team-work, providing plenty of fun and adventure in a safe and closely supervised environment. The trip allows children to learn new skills, challenge themselves and bond as a group; with benefits which will extend back to the classroom.

We offer a full range of supervised adventure activities including climbing, abseiling, high ropes and weaselling that will be sure to get your students' blood pumping! The highlight of the trip is a three-day canoe descent through the rapids of the Ardèche Gorge including a night under the stars sleeping overnight in a bivouac.

School groups on a tight budget or who are pushed for time can opt for a condensed six-day programme which features the same highlights as the nine-day trip.

Real watersport enthusiasts can combine the Ardèche Gorge Adventure with our Mediterranean activity programme to make a nine-day two-centre trip which includes beach, sailing and windsurfing.

How Do Our School Adventure Programmes Work?

Your students are in the very best of hands because all activities are led by our own qualified instructors who are highly experienced working with school groups.  We pride ourselves on our instructor’s professionalism, their sense of adventure, and their ability to coax the best from every child.

Our team operates to the highest standards and conform to European national governing body’s code of practice. Wherever possible, our policy is to provide a greater number of qualified staff on site than required by the Governing National Body. All activities use our own state-of-the-art equipment which is routinely checked and regularly replaced.

All our outdoor activity and adventure programmes are subject to a biannual inspection by Adventuremark, an independent UK body which ensures we meet the best practice standards.

We provide schools with the relevant risk assessments, operating procedures and safeguarding policies for all adventure activities run by our own staff.

We comply with the UK Government's Department for Education guide onHealth & Safety on Educational Visits. All necessary risk assessments are available to teachers and all details of our activity instructor staff will be included in your welcome pack.

"Thank you for arranging a brilliant school trip to France last week. Staff and children had a really enjoyable time and learned a lot. The programme was busy and we made good use of our time. Juju is a fantastic animateur – he's got so much energy and I was pleased that he insisted on high standards of the children's French." Anna Rippe, Head of French
