“The accommodation was in a great location and was of a good standard. The students especially loved the high ropes and slacklining. The kids had to order drinks and ice cream in German which really boosted their confidence and got them into the swing of using the language.”

Lee Rooke, MFL Teacher, Kesteven and Sleaford High

“Students have been so engaged in class since returning from the trip. My only wish is that I’d organised the trip at the start of the year so the momentum would carry on throughout the year. I will definitely book this German language tour again.”

Voyager-Exclusive Residential Centre

We are the exclusive British partner of DJH Hellenthal, a specialist youth hostel and outdoor activity centre in the Eifel district of Germany which is located in its own wooded grounds on the outskirts of the National Park. Set around a traditional German half-timbered building, we recommend the Hellenthal centre because of its location, its traditional German setting and fantastic on-site activities. Activities and Learning

We recommend taking two full days to experience the on-site activities which include high ropes, climbing, GPS expedition, rope bridge construction and go cart building. These activities are led, in German, by our own German-native Betreuers which means that as well as having fun, your students will be making tangible improvements in their German language speaking and confidence.

This leaves you with another two days to experience the National Park and surrounding area which offer plenty of fun excursions for your school group. A popular visit is a walk around the beautiful Rurberg lake, followed by a boat trip ending at the wonderful Eiscafe for ‘Kaffee und Kuchen’. The pretty resort town of Monschau and the wildlife park and bird of prey centre in Hellenthal are also very close by, or you can opt for a day at Phantasialand theme park which is just an hour away.

To reinforce the vocabulary your students will use during their trip, we provide bespoke German workbooks to support their language learning.

Who Is This School Trip Perfect For?

The trip provides groups with the opportunity to experience a traditional picturesque German "chocolate box" setting and is particularly popular with German language students aged 11 to 15 years. The trip suit students who enjoy outdoor activities and can be tailored to all levels of German learner, including beginners.

When Should My School Travel to Hellenthal?

Much of the activities are outdoors and so the majority of our German language groups stay at the Voyager-exclusive centre Hellenthal school centre from April through to October. The main on-site activities, such as the high-ropes course, are undercover and so offer some protection from the elements.

German Language Immersion - How Does It Work?

As well as enjoying a mix of adventure and culture in a traditional German setting, your students will make real improvements in their German language skills and confidence. Your school group will have a specially trained German Betreuer, who will lead all activities and evening games that take place on-site at the centre in German to create a truly authentic and immersive environment.

Students will need to use their German speaking and listening skills in order to partake in the activities. Before your trip, we will provide each student with a German workbook which details all the vocabulary students will need to use in Germany.
