La Grand' Ferme Residential School Trips

Language Immersion and Activity Trip For Schools

Based in our own centre in Normandy, this residential French language immersion programme offers a fun mix of cultural visits and excursions with some on-site activities. Your day trips, group activities and evening entertainments will be led by our native French-speaking animateurs to create a totally French-speaking environment which gives your students every opportunity to practise the language.

A French immersion trip to La Grand’ Ferme gives your students more exposure to speaking and listening to French than is possible in a whole term of formal lessons back at school.

A French Language Centre Perfect For School Groups

With a stunning view towards Le Mont St Michel, La Grand’ Ferme is our gîte-style centre located just 2km from the coast. Consisting of a unique set of converted buildings within 3 acres of its own grounds, La Grand’ Ferme provides a safe and car-free environment which is ideally suited for school trips with plenty of on-site amenities such as a sports court, a large games room, petting animals, heated outdoor swimming pool, football pitch and beach volley ball. What’s more, your school will have the benefit of 24-hour care and supervision from our experienced managers who live on site.

Activities and Learning

All activities, cultural trips and evening entertainment is taken care of by our experienced French animateurs, so you won’t need to organise a thing! This programme is designed so that students have a fun and enjoyable break while making substantial improvements in their French. All excursions, activities and meal times are conducted in French and your students will receive a French workbook to reinforce the language they’ve learned during the trip.

During a typical 6-day programme, your students will enjoy a variety of cultural trips led in French by our animateurs, such as a market mission, and a visit to a WWII Cemetery. On-site activities such as circus skills and bread making are designed to concentrate on particular areas of French vocabulary. Your students will have so much fun they will hardly notice that they are improving their French and growing in confidence.

A highlight is our Mont St Michel guided bay walk, setting off from La Grand' Ferme. You will head to the coast and then walk barefoot across the sand to Mont St Michel – a unique and memorable experience for all our students and teachers.

“Without exception, the animateurs were enthusiastic, friendly and accomplished in making all activities fun for the children, all of whom have come home with fantastic memories and a renewed enthusiasm for speaking French.”

Carolyn George, All Saints Catholic High School

Perfect For

This programme is designed to provide a mix of unique experiences, cultural visits and activities which KS3 French learners will particularly enjoy. The self-contained grounds also create a safe environment for KS2 students. We also offer more advanced GCSE and sixth form programmes tailored towards older students.

When to Go

The language immersion programme at La Grand’ Ferme runs from September to early December and from January to July. The programme’s excursions and activities are not particularly weather dependent which means that La Grand’ Ferme is suitable for schools throughout the year.

We suggest that KS3 teachers book a trip in the Autumn to boost their students’ French learning after the long summer break and to help Year 7 students bond as a group early in the academic year.

The Spring Term is the most affordable time to visit La Grand’ Ferme and schools booking trips early in this term are also more likely to get the accommodation to themselves.

Language Immersion - How Does It Work?

“The classroom situation is always artificial to some degree. Here my pupils know it’s for real. If they know that when they want something, they have to ask for it in French, they will do it!”

Instead of acquiring French by formal instruction, your students will learn French from native French-speaking animateurs in a totally French-speaking environment. From breakfast through to the evening entertainment and all the fun activities and trips in between, everything is led in French by our trained French leaders. Your students will enjoy a fun week of cultural visits and activities while making sustainable improvements in their French language skills.
