A rich heritage

Vienna and Salzburg are rich in music heritage and a wonderful destination for your music school tour. Highlights include a workshop with the Vienna Boys Choir, becoming part of the Voices of the World Project in front of the magnificent Schonbrunn Palace, and the option to participate in an international music festival.

This music school tour is a great way for your students to experience a wide variety of musical styles. They can do anything from taking a class in the famous Viennese waltz to trying a yodelling master-class. In the case of younger groups, and Julie Andrews fans, the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg will always hit the right note! In addition to a diverse choice of excursions and activities, both destinations have a rich history, some inspirational concert venues, from the Salzburger Dom and the Mirabell Gardens in Salzburg, to St. Stephen’s Cathedral and St. Peter’s church in Vienna.

Austria has something special going on all year round but Christmas is magical. You can explore the Christmas markets that adorn both Vienna and Salzburg and perform in front of a live audience.

Vienna Boys Choir

Vienna Boys Choir workshop

Step inside the Augarten Palace, home to the Vienna Boys Choir, and enjoy a day with one of the world’s most famous choirs. The Vienna Boys Choir is one of the oldest choirs in Europe; its roots can be traced back to the 13th century and in the 15th century it became the official choir of the Imperial court. The boys perform around eighty performances and are on tour for roughly eleven weeks each year. This is an opportunity for you and your music groups to learn about what makes up a truly exceptional choir. The day will begin with a workshop for the guest choir under the direction of the artistic director of the Vienna Boys Choir and you will then be able to attend a private rehearsal. The highlight of the day will be your combined rehearsal with the Vienna Boys Choir, after which you will perform a joint concert in the palace and be awarded a special certificate.

TA 001SSDyodel

Yodelling masterclass

Our specially trained yodelling masterclass instructor graduated as a singer and voice coach from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, with distinction. You and your groups will be taught about the techniques that are required to achieve an authentic Austrian yodel. Whether you are singers or instrumentalists, this class is an opportunity to have some fun. So, let your lungs out, fill the room and enjoy.

Viennese Waltz

Viennese Waltz

Step back in time and enjoy a short 45-minute introduction to Austria’s signature dance, the waltz. Although the waltz was not in fact invented by Strauss, many associate the song with the dulcet tones of his composition, The Blue Danube. So, as you’re practising the movements of the dance imagine Austrians past dancing to Strauss’s popular creation.

House of Music

House of Music

The House of Music was awarded the Austrian Museum Prize for its innovative design. It is located in the former Palais of Archduke Charles. A host of interactive installations playfully communicate openness to new things, understanding and enthusiasm in approaching music. A total of 5,000 square metres is dedicated to a wide array of approaches to music, and most of all, to the experience of music.

The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music Tour

Walk in the footsteps of Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, and other famous cast members from the 1965 classic movie. Visit the various locations where the award-winning musical was made, including the Mirabel Gardens, where the seven von Trapp children and their governess sang and danced to the Roger and Hammerstein tune of 'Doe-Re-Mi'. The four-hour excursion also includes a visit to the gazebo where the colonel romantically asked for Maria’s hand in marriage and the Basilica Mondsee, the church where the their marriage took place. We can even arrange for you to perform in this church too!

Golden Hall Vienna

Festival opportunity in July

Your music school tour is also an opportunity to compete or join in a celebratory festival that takes place every July. As part of the four-day event you and your groups could enjoy three workshops at the University of Music in Vienna in which you can compete and receive a professional level of criticism and feedback. On top of all this, you will have the opportunity to perform in the highly prestigious concert hall, Golden Hall of the Musikverein.

I was amazed by animateur Francois' dedication to speaking solely French to the students who, although a little reluctant at times, gave it a good go and found out that they did not have a choice but to get stuck in!
