Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar School report on their watersport & adventure trip with Voyager School Travel
“The best part of the service provided is without doubt the people. Our tour coordinator was fantastic and the instructors are really enthusiastic about their work and pitching their instructions at the right level so students quickly grasp what they are doing.”
The school have taken this trip 5 times and the learning objectives for the trip are team building, team work, cultural visits and improving communication. We travel in May half term, so we don’t miss too much school and the weather is usually nice.
The best aspect of the programme is the variety of activities (sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding and more) and the opportunity to see Barcelona, plus a bit of Spanish history. The instructors are really enthusiastic about their work and it is obvious to the students, it really rubs off on them. The activities can be quite technical, so it’s about pitching it at the right level and explaining in a clear way, which they do really well. The students learn and quickly grasp what to do. Part of this is making sure the students are listening to instructions - remembering all their names really helps. The equipment is also always new.
I have to say the best activity was the Giant SUPs. With 6-8 students on each board, communication comes into it and the students have so much fun! It’s something a bit different that the students have never done before and can’t do elsewhere - definitely a trip highlight.
Voyager produce a GoPro video for the week, which is great to show Parents and future groups. It also makes a great momento for the students
The evening entertainment is great as a lot of it is adventure based, such as snorkel training. Students also loved the challenge of the town trail - it was funny to see how seriously they take it - as well as the last night disco. Even a thunderstorm didn’t stop the instructors making alternative arrangements one evening.
To sum up, it’s great to see the quiet and shy students build their confidence on these trips and come out of their shells. It’s also noticeable how they are happier to interact with teachers and other students when they’re back at school. One parent actually emailed in to the school and said their child had really grown up since returning from the trip!
Finally, the other staff had a great trip too - enjoyed by all because the Voyager staff are so professional and helpful.
“We stayed at the Novo Park Hotel, in an ideal location about 5-10 minutes walk to the beach and situated in the town centre which feels really safe and so small you can’t get lost!”
“We were impressed by the hotel - the quality of food really stood out as there was lots of variety. There’s lots of salad and fruit to encourage healthy eating and there really isn’t an excuse for anyone to go hungry. The hotel staff were really polite and patient, particularly with the number of children losing their key cards! The rooms are nice and clean.”
“The learning objectives for the trip were: team building, team work, cultural visits and improving communication.”
“It’s also really good for us to develop our relationship with the students and for them to see a different side to us teachers.”
“We switched to using Voyager 5 years ago and what stood out to us was the quality of staff and instructors, their knowledge and enthusiasm of the sports and the way students are kept busy - they are always doing something and taking part in proper activities.”
“Our tour co-ordinator was fantastic - always gets back to us really quickly with answers to our questions and the replies are friendly, not too corporate.”
