Our Spanish Language programme based in Murcia is a fantastic way to combine an exciting school trip to Spain with immersive learning. Students practice speaking Spanish whilst taking part in fun activities. It's a formula we've proven works! If you can’t make it to Arbolar, then our Spanish monitors are also available to accompany schools to Barcelona, Madrid and Granada, encouraging your school group to speak Spanish at every opportunity.

Exclusive to Voyager School Travel
The Arbolar centre delivers a unique Spanish language immersion programme and is exclusive to Voyager School Travel. Just like our French Language Immersion programme at the Château de la Baudonnière, the emphasis in Murcia is on learning Spanish outside the classroom. It's all about combining Spanish language learning with fun, hands-on experiences and activities. Typical activities include cooking Spanish dishes on the local beach, sailing or kayaking using the centre’s fleet of boats, visits to the mud baths, observing flamingos and herons in the bird sanctuary opposite the centre, visiting local lead and silver mines, structured visits to the local village where students can interact with the locals and excursions to Cartagena, Murcia, Salinas de San Pedro or even the Terra Mitica theme park.
Our Spanish Immersion Centre is located in Arbolar in the wonderful region of Murcia and boasts a perfect position on the banks of the Mar Menor. This beautiful lagoon is separated from the Mediterranean by a sandbar and is known as the 'world's largest swimming pool' because of its warm, clear waters. This makes it a great location for water sports and observing marine life. Within easy reach of Alicante and Murcia airports, it's no wonder our Arbolar centre continues to attract so many school parties.
Your party will be divided into groups of ten, each accompanied by a centre ‘monitor’. Our monitors are native Spanish speaking and they converse in Spanish with your students as well as leading the group throughout the week.
Our monitors are also available to accompany schools to Barcelona, Madrid and Granada, encouraging your group to speak Spanish at every opportunity.

Cartagena is an historical city that has maintained its strength and power because of its much coveted defensive port, which has remained one of the most important in the western Mediterranean. The confluence of civilisations as well as its strategic harbour, together with the rise of the local mining industry has resulted in the culmination of an unique artistic heritage, with a number of landmarks such as the Roman Theatre, and a plethora of Art Nouveau buildings that came out of the bourgeoisie settlements in the early 20th century. The visit is supported by a workbook with vocabulary, grammar and exercises.

Murcia is a popular university town, which makes it ideal for younger groups. Highlights for visitors include the Cathedral, a number of beautiful baroque buildings, renowned local cuisine, works of art by the famous Murcia sculptor Francisco Salzillo, and the celebrated Spring Festival.

Students use vocabulary found in their workbook, related to nature and the environment as they enjoy a guided walk through the nature reserve at San Pedro, where they will see the famous salt flats and the flamingoes in the wild. The group will need to take towels and flip-flops as there is a popular mud bath experience to finish off the excursion.
Children work in teams to cook paella and gazpacho. The activity is designed to reinforce food and cooking vocabulary as well as team building skills.
Children are given a workbook and taught the specific vocabulary needed to practice water sports. During the session all instructions are always repeated in English to ensure all members of the group understand. Each team is then led by a monitor through the activity. Students have the opportunity to try out windsurfing, kayaking and sailing.
Students find their rhythm, as they learn the basics of the Merengue, Salsa, Bachata and Cha cha cha.

I was amazed by animateur Francois' dedication to speaking solely French to the students who, although a little reluctant at times, gave it a good go and found out that they did not have a choice but to get stuck in!
